To continue honoring Past President, Art Caple, with new national plan sponsor award

Earlier this year, the ANC Foundation Board made the difficult decision to dissolve the Foundation. Over the years since inception, funding has significantly decreased from sources other than NAGDCA. In addition, the programs offered through the Foundation (student/mentor program, quiz bowl and scholarship) have required increasing levels of financial and staff support while not fully meeting the goals outlined for them. After thoughtful consideration by the Board and outreach to several Past Presidents and Board members who were instrumental in starting the Foundation, the ANC Board felt it was the right time to dissolve the Foundation.

However, there are two very important pieces of the Foundation that will continue. One is the Theresa Cruz Myers 5K Run. We will continue to honor the memory of Theresa with the 5K. It will now be offered under NAGDCA instead of the Foundation. Theresa was a long-time member and great supporter of NAGDCA’s efforts to mentor students and provide opportunities to them as they pursued their careers in financial planning. Theresa lost a hard-fought battle to leukemia in December 2014.

The second is remembering and honoring the late Arthur N. Caple whom the Foundation was named after. Art was a national leader in the field of public-sector retirement security. He was a visionary and voice for those who serve others through employer-sponsored retirement plans and championed retirement programs that continue today to build financial security for state and local government employees throughout their retirement. Art was elected President of NAGDCA in 1996. At the time of his death, he was Executive Director of Maryland’s Supplemental Retirement Agency.

In Art’s honor and memory, NAGDCA has create a new national plan sponsor award called the NAGDCA – Art Caple President’s Award for Excellence. This prestigious award will be given annually at the NAGDCA Annual Conference with the first one being given this year. More details about the award can be found here.
