Dear NAGDCA Members,
As we close 2024, I wanted to spend a few moments reflecting on a successful year and looking ahead to what’s next.
First, it was a joy to see so many of you at our annual conference in Phoenix this year. The heat mercifully stayed away (by Phoenix standards), and the energy in the room was palpable. We were so thankful to our members, speakers, and sponsors for making it such a terrific event. Planning is well under way for San Diego in 2025, and we can’t wait to see you there!
We also developed several resources we hope you can use in your daily work. Our Guide to Governmental DC Plans built on our previous Fees and Auto Enrollment Guides. Our goal is to build a cannon of quick reference information that is easy to use and accessible to members of all experience levels. We have also begun our work supplementing the Guides with short publications on narrow topics like float income and general account use. If you have any thoughts for our next topics to cover, don’t hesitate to bring them to our attention.
While we were not able to publish an update to the PRRL Data Portal this year because some of the data came in late, we will have an updated version, containing both 2022 AND 2023 data, available in the early part of next year. Our turnaround time on the portal has been slower than we would all like as we iron out the data transfer processes, but I’m confident we will be faster next year. We will keep you updated as we get closer to our data release dates.
One very positive aspect of the PRRL data is that our partners at EBRI have started to analyze the data as they clean and prepare it for the portal. Before the end of the year, we will release a longitudinal analysis of our first three years of data (2019 – 2021), and a deep dive into the use of stable value products in the industry. Expect many more studies in the near future. Thank you to those of you who have helped us build the database, and if want to add your data, you can do so here.
Finally, next year will be an important one for legislation. Some extreme proposals, like turning all retirement contributions to Roth, are already being discussed to help pay for tax cuts. We have been working with our Legislative Committee to develop our organizational priorities and positions, and we will have those ready for the Executive Board to take to Capitol Hill on your behalf in May.
As always, thank you for your membership, your sponsorship, and your partnership. We look forward to working with you again in the coming year.
Matt Petersen
Executive Director
