As part of a new Education Program, NAGDCA will launch the Fundamentals of Public Sector Defined Contribution Plans Certificate Course, a self-paced online course designed specifically for professionals working in and alongside public sector defined contribution plans.
What Will You Learn?
Through three interactive modules, the course provides a practical foundation in public sector retirement plan administration, including:
Module 1: Overview of Public Sector Retirement Plans
- How public sector retirement systems are structured and the role of defined contribution plans
- Defined benefit, defined contribution, and hybrid plan designs
- Fiduciary responsibilities, governance, and prudent plan oversight
- Employee communication and investment education
Module 2: Public Sector Defined Contribution Plans
- Key features and rules for 401(a), 403(b), 457(b), and other public sector DC plans
- Contribution and compensation limits, vesting, forfeitures, and plan administration
- Plan investments, costs, distributions, and access to funds
Module 3: Public Sector Retirement Plan Investments and Vendor Management
- Retirement plan decision-making and fiduciary responsibilities
- Investment policies, investment options, asset allocation, and risk
- Types of service providers and vendor fee structures
Selecting, monitoring, and managing vendor relationships
Throughout the course, participants will reinforce their learning through knowledge checks, practical examples, and real-world scenarios designed specifically for public sector retirement professionals.
Participants who successfully complete all three modules will earn a NAGDCA Certificate of Completion. The course may also be eligible for continuing education (CE) credit for select professional designations, with final credit details coming soon.
This course is the first offering in NAGDCA’s new Education Program, with additional courses planned for the future.
The course will be available for $500 for NAGDCA members and $700 for non-members.
