OVERVIEW
- The award recognizes outstanding achievements in effective communication, plan design & administration, and National Save for Retirement Week activities.
- Every submission will be recognized for their achievements with the top three submissions in each category being recognized with Special Awards of Distinction
- Submissions are accepted from government members only.
- All nominees whose innovations have resulted in a sound improvement in their plans will be recognized with an award.
- NAGDCA welcomes nominations from 401(a), 401(k), 403(b) and 457 plans.
- Prior submissions will not be considered for an award.
CATEGORIES & CRITERIA
Qualifying plans must meet the following criteria in at least one of the categories below:
Effective Communication
- Plans demonstrating comprehensive, effective, and innovative communication.
- Demonstrate the education of potential and current participants, as well as other interested parties, of the benefits of the supplemental retirement plan.
- Effective communication materials may include:
- Brochures
- Videotaped presentations
- Computerized group informational presentations (power point)
- Webcast or Podcast
- Internet Web site material
Plan Design & Administration
- Significant changes in plan design, administration (e.g., ongoing fiduciary responsibility education), plan enhancement (e.g., Automatic Enrollment, Roth 401(k) etc.), plan features or customer service.
- Design enhancements that have improved the features of the retirement savings plan.
- Technology advancements, such as Internet access or enhanced computer systems.
- Educational programs for Board of Trustees or Investment Review Committees.
National Save for Retirement Week
- The award recognizes either an entire campaign or specific strategy that effectively:
- Raised awareness of National Save for Retirement Week.
- Drove measurable activity and results regarding the initiative.
- Generated local or national media coverage.
FORMAT
To be eligible for the Leadership Recognition Award, a nominated state or local government defined contribution/ deferred compensation program, project, or activity must meet be submitted in the following format:
- The program, project, or activity must have been implemented since January 1, 2007 and must not only be making federally required changes;
- Governmental staff must have played a significant role in developing the program, project, or activity;
- The nomination must be signed by the government member submitting the form.
- All nominations should include the following:
- A completed nomination form
- A one-page summary of the project
- A written justification (not to exceed three pages) containing:
- A description of the project, including length of time in operation and when first implemented.
- Relative significance of the improvement to the operation of the plan and a brief background perspective for the change.
- Benefits realized by the plan participants.
- Feasibility of use by other governments of a similar size.
- Description of measurable results.
AWARD PRESENTATION
Awards will be presented to government members and their industry partners at NAGDCA's conference in Baltimore, MD on September 15, 2008.
Winners will be recognized in a printed publication at the NAGDCA Annual Conference. Please note: you do not need to mail in additional materials with your award submission (brochures, DVD, etc.)
Award recipients will be notified in July 2008.
